Dysbiosis is the imbalance of bacteria in the colon, or bowel, which often leads to bad health. The idea of dysbiosis was postulated by Metchinkoff in the nineteenth century. Metchinkoff correctly identified that:
* Excessive putrefactive bacteria (the harmful type) in the colon cause toxins to be produced – especially the damaging ‘amines’, and that
* Eating fermented foods containing probiotics – ‘friendly bacteria’ – could reduce ill health. These foods include yoghurt and sauerkraut.
The colon and small intestine contain 3-400 species of bacteria and, surprising to many, most of the bulk of the stool consists of bacteria.
Friendly And Unfriendly
Most of the bacteria in a healthy colon are the ‘friendly’ type. These are predominantly the ‘anaerobic’ type – they do not require oxygen to live – and they have a beneficial effect on our health. There are also a small number of ‘unfriendly’ bacteria in the healthy colon. These are predominantly ‘aerobic’ – they do need oxygen – and they also produce toxins, notably the toxic ‘amines’ mentioned above.
In good health, the harmful bacteria are kept in check by the abundance of beneficial bacteria. Unfortunately, the bacteria in the colon often get out of balance – the ‘dysbiosis’ of Metchinkoff.
Dysbiosis both:
* Increases the ‘toxic load’ the body has to deal with, and
* Reduces the benefits provided by the ‘friendly bacteria – which are many, including keeping us energetic and boosting our immune system.
The increased toxic load results in ailments including:
* Auto-immune diseases – such as rheumatoid arthritis
* Candida overgrowth
* ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis)
* Unexplained fatigue
As always with your health, if you are ill, seek help from a trusted alternative health practitioner, as well as keeping your doctor ‘in the loop’.
Dealing With Dysbiosis
The partial answer to dysbiosis is to supplement with a very good quality bowel flora product. This will usually contain good strains (which will be patented) of several different species of bacteria. These are often acidophilus, bifidus and sometimes faecium. This supplementation might be for a course of 3 months and can helpfully be repeated annually. Nowadays, these supplements are stable – i.e. they don’t need refrigerating. This can be useful for travel. However, if you do refrigerate them they will remain more powerful than if left at room temperature. A product with a claimed 1 million organisms may start its life with 10 million so that it can arrive at the end of its stated shelf life with at least 1 million. So do keep unused pots in the fridge. And DO buy from a trusted source.
Some other matters to pay attention to, to deal with dysbiosis are:
* The diet – reduce meat and fish in the diet. Harmful bacteria thrive on partially digested meat.
* Antibiotic use – these kill the friendly bacteria.
* Low fibre in the diet – increase vegetable consumption which are favoured by friendly bacteria. Brown rice and whole wheat and other whole grains are also high in fibre.
Colon cleansing is a prime method to promote good health. Supplementing of bowel flora combines well with any colon cleansing programme to help counteract dysbiosis.

It is no secret that colon cleansing positively impacts a person’s overall health. What many Americans do not know is that an unhealthy colon leads to a number of health problems, not just constipation. An unclean colon can cause cancer, disease, weight gain, and even death. Over 70 million Americans suffer from colon related problems. This number does not even include the number of people who do not find their problems severe enough to consult a doctor.
How to know if your colon needs a cleanse:
The first red flag of an unhealthy colon is constipation. A healthy adult will have two bowel movements every day. The first will be early in the day; this movement should be effortless and quite large (2-4 feet in length). The second movement could be significantly smaller but equally effortless. If you require a lot of time or energy to create a bowel movement, or you find yourself making less than 2 movements a day, you are in need of a cleanse.
With today’s diet options, it has become nearly impossible to eat a proper diet to maintain colon health. Foods with high amounts of fiber have been replaced with high gluten sticky proteins. This coupled with high acidic content of the American diet, creates a thick, pasty glue inside of our intestines. Many examples of this thick paste can be viewed at the site below. Please be warned that the images are graphic and should not be view by people with a weak stomach.
Our digestive system was never designed to handle these types of foods. However, we cannot be expected to stop eating. That is why colon cleansing has become so important. Over time, your colon can become partial blocked, distorted, stressed, or dysfunctional from poor eating habits. Alcohol and drug use also plays a large role in compromising your intestinal health.
There are many products on the market that can help you maintain colon health, some require you to take a pill every single day like OxyPowder – some require only a 7 day treament per season like Almighty Cleanse. Alternatives can require vigorous regimens of fasting and homemade remedies.
Regardless of the product you use, cleansing is vital to your overall health and should be considered by every health conscious individual. A preemptive strike to colon blockage is the best bet, but if you are experiencing severe pain or discomfort related to your colon do not attempt to try a cleanse product, seek the guidance of your doctor first and foremost.

At the start of the 20th century, colon diseases are becoming more common. These diseases are primarily the output of bad eating habits. Like cancer and heart disease, the causes are cumulative and may take several years for the symptoms to appear.
Nowadays, having good colon health is important, though it can be difficult to achieve because people’s diets are getting worse everyday. A person who fails to take in the minimum amount of fiber may find it hard to expel his bowels. Regular intake of drugs which may postpone bowel movement may also destroy colon health. Of course, those who are lazy enough not go to the toilet when they need to go may also be suffering from colon diseases.
Stools should be effortlessly expelled from the body. If you need to read a book or a magazine before can move your bowels out, you may be constipated. Constipation is one obvious symptom of bad colon health. Another indications is the appearance of any undigested food, mucus and blood in your stools.
Colon health problems can cause several other problems such as nutritional deficiency even if you have good diet regimen. If a poor colon health does not improve, it can also lead to asthma, anaemia, fatigue and several other auto-immune diseases. These symptoms are common to several other diseases that’s why poor colon health may not be detected immediately. These symptoms are due to toxic fecal matter that could not be removed if your colon does not function well enough.
When your colon is deficient, it could not properly eliminate toxins from the body. These fecal matters build up on the pockets of your colon and may stay there for several weeks, or months, or even years. Normally, in a healthy colon condition, the body should be able to push out these toxic wastes from your colon within eighteen to twenty-four hours.
When these fecal deposits in your colon get irritated, it can dangerously interfere with the functions of your other organs. You may suffer from an inflamed colon which just worsens nutrient deficiency as well as proper bowel movements.
What’s worse is when the feces stuck in the colon starts to decay. It can release really harmful toxins and gases which can poison the blood stream. Because the blood runs through all organs in the body, chances are, these organs could also be poisoned. With the blood stream polluted and organs infected, your body gets full of wastes.
These toxins inside the body could explain numerous toxic diseases such as ammonia, that’s when toxins infect your liver. When a particular organ is toxic, it won’t be capable of receiving nutrients because its is clogged up with wastes.
Even if one improves the health of these other organs, the infection could recur. As mentioned before, these organ infections are not the causes but effects of another health problem. That problem would be a poor colon health. Thus, cleaning up these organs would not be as effective unless the colon is cleaned out. Your body organs would just reabsorb all the toxins released by fecal deposits in your colon.
The tissues in your body won’t be capable of fully eliminating these wastes unless the colon is properly working, because that’s what colons are for. Colons function as the sewer for the body. It provides a drainage system for body wastes. Whenever the colon leaks out because of poor colon health, these toxins are released back into the main bloodstream, and infecting your body organs again.
Although poor diet is the primary cause of poor colon health, following a better diet program may not be enough to help your colon recover. That’s because your colon may have already been severely damaged before you realize it. Statistics show that colon cancer is the number one cancer experienced by both males and females in their 40s. About 70 million Americans are diagnosed with bowel problems. That number excludes those who did not consult a medical doctor.
With advanced technologies, we now have several methods to clean out the colon. However, there is no single remedy which can effectively and completely improve colon health. With complementary treatments such as colon hydrotherapy, exercise, stress management, and of course, a healthier diet, the colon could be cleansed out with these trapped feces.
After a person’s colon has been thoroughly cleansed, the feces should fall out easily. It may take months for severe colon health problems to be fully corrected. Body organs may also take a while to undo the toxic damages.
